Rotten Egg Smell

Most sulfur water treatments work by oxidizing hydrogen sulfide gas into solid elemental sulfur. Oxidation converts dissolved contaminants into filterable solids or harmless byproducts, altering their chemical and physical properties. There are several methods available to oxidize hydrogen sulfide.

Rotten Egg Smell

Water containing Hydrogen sulfide, Sulfur Water, has a "Rotten Egg" or swampy odor. Common names for the gas include sewer gas, stink damp, swamp gas, and manure gas. It is formed by the decay of organic matter.

Manganese leaves brownish-black stains that detergents can't remove—and chlorine bleach or alkaline cleaners can make worse. Iron and manganese can build up in pipes, tanks, heaters, and softeners, restricting water flow and lowering pressure. This buildup increases energy use and utility costs. Water with these minerals often contains iron or manganese bacteria, which aren’t harmful but create reddish-brown or black slime that clogs systems and toilet tanks.
